(GOOGL.O) Google will offer checking accounts to customers starting next year in a payment, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. The project, called Cache, will have accounts with Citigroup Inc. (C.N) and a credit union at Stanford University, according to the report. (on.wsj.com/2Qeppb5) Ads "Our approach will be to partner deeply with banks and the financial system," Kaiser Sengupta, Google's general manager and vice president of payments, said in an interview with the Journal. "The road may be a little longer but more sustainable," Sengupta was quoted as saying in the report. Google did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
